Abstract

Mycosed mites Acalitus orthomera were observed on blackberry fruits cv. ‘Tupy’ in Los Reyes de Salgado, Michoacan, Mexico. Acalitus orthomera appeared during the fruiting period of the crop (February-May) of 2023. Sarocladium terricola (J. Mill, Giddens and A. Foster) was isolated from fruits on which the mycosed mites were found, and they are the etiological agents of mycosis. The mycosed mites were first identified morphologically from in vitro cultures and then molecularly by the use of standard PCR using ITS4 and ITS5 primers on the fungal mycelia. This is the first report that Sarocladium terricola is a natural enemy of Acalitus orthomera on blackberry.
