Abstract

Trichapion aurichalceum is reported from bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) pods in the municipalities of Toluca and Temoya, State of Mexico. Oviposition occurred in the pod apex, which affected 3.1 pods/plant. The larvae exhibited gregarious habits, with 58±29 larvae/pod. They fed on the developing grains at the pod apex. They built cocoons inside the pod and remained until they became adults. On average, each pod had 59±41 adults. Trichapion aurichalceum infested the bean pods from the flowering period to when the pods dried from July to October.
