Morettia kilianii is described from Yemen, and its relationships to the other three species of the genus is discussed. It is readily distinguished from them by the subshrubby habit, lack of valve partitions between the seeds, connivent stigmas, and petals 0.3–0.5 mm wide. A key to the species of Morettia is presented.

The typification of the Linnaean name Iris pumila (Iridaceae) is discussed. Original material conserved in the Clifford Herbarium (BM), agreeing with the current usage of the name, is designated as the lectotype. An epitype is also designated in order to avoid any ambiguity in the taxonomic interpretation of the lectotype specimen and hence the application of the name.

There is confusion over the place and date of publication of a paper by J. C. Klotzsch in which 17 nomenclatural novelties in the Rubiaceae were proposed including five new generic names. The paper was presented to the Königlich Preussische Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Berlin in August 1853 and appeared in the Akademie's journal. At least three German periodicals published in 1853 reported on Klotzsch's paper in association with the Bericht über die zur Bekanntmachung geeigneten Verhandlungen der Königlich Preussischen Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Berlin, indicating that the journal was published on a monthly basis and that the August issue was available on 19 September 1853 at the latest. Citation of an issue of the journal Flora from 7 December 1853 as the place of publication of these Klotzsch names should therefore be corrected. Five lectotypes, two neotypes and one second-step neotype are designated here.

Biscutella pseudolyrata is described from the Atlantic coastal areas of NW Morocco, where several populations are known to occur in deep sandy soils at low elevation. It belongs to B. ser. Biscutella (B. ser. Lyratae, Brassicaceae) and is morphologically close to the Spanish endemic B. lyrata and the C Mediterranean B. maritima, two species to which it has sometimes been considered related and with which it shares a diploid chromosome number 2n = 16. Re-evaluation of morphological characters in the light of phylogenetic trees from plastid (rpl32-trnL and trnV) and nuclear (ITS region) DNA sequence data support description of those Moroccan populations as a new species, which is phylogenetically closer to the W Mediterranean B. boetica but morphologically quite easy to distinguish from it. Data on morphology, ecology and distribution are reported, and similarities and differences with regard to other members of the series are discussed.

Rubus ser. Micantes Sudre (Rosaceae) includes apomictic polyploid species of hybrid origin, which occur in north-western and central Europe, with rare outposts south-east of the Alps. The first regionally distributed representative of the series occurring in Italy, Rubus vallis-cembrae Prosser & Király, is described here as a morphologically unique, isolated tetraploid species. The new species is morphologically compared with related taxa of the series. Furthermore, comprehensive iconography and data on distribution and ecology are presented.

Here we describe and illustrate Dizygostemon riparius (Plantaginaceae, Gratioleae) as a new species from the state of Maranhão, northeastern Brazil. We present morphological and micromorphological descriptions and comparisons, along with illustrations, photographs, and information on its taxonomy, habitat, geographic distribution and conservation status. Dizygostemon riparius differs from D. floribundus, the only other accepted species of the genus, by having the stems sparsely to densely tomentose, the sepals as long as or slightly longer than the corolla tube, the posterior sepal to 1.5 times as wide as any of the other four, the ovary glandular villous, and the leaves larger. The new species is assessed as Endangered (EN) according to IUCN categories and criteria. Additionally, we provide diagnostic features that help to differentiate Dizygostemon from the similar Brazilian genera Achetaria, Stemodia and Tetraulacium.

Picrasma pauciflora, a new species from the NE coastal fringe of Cuba, is described and compared with other species of the genus occurring in Cuba, from which it differs by being a tree, by the number of leaflets and by having fewer flowers per inflorescence. Aspects of its distribution and habitat are provided as well as an identification key to the Cuban species of Picrasma.

August Weberbauer was a German botanist who worked for most of his life in Peru. Many species have been described based on specimens collected by him, which were mainly deposited in the Berlin herbarium (B). After the bombing of the Berlin herbarium during World War II, it was assumed that most of these types had been destroyed, duplicates rarely existed and neotypes had to be designated. However, during visits to Peruvian herbaria we rediscovered some overlooked duplicates of specimens of Clusiaceae. In the present paper, we designate lectotypes of ten names based on these Weberbauer collections and report additional duplicates found in the herbarium G. Some former incorrect typifications are corrected, and the problem of destroyed types in herbarium B, often known mainly from photos made by J. F. Macbride, is briefly discussed.

The Reuss herbarium is a collection of c. 60 000 vascular plants of mainly European origin brought together in the mid-nineteenth century and kept in the Botanical Museum Berlin. This herbarium consists of specimens gathered by August Emanuel Reuss and his two sons August Leopold and Wilhelm Joseph and includes ample material purchased from different sources, notably the exchange club “Botanischer Tauschverein” in Vienna, and various exsiccata series. The collection also contains the voucher material referring to August Leopold Reuss's publications on the flora of what is now the north of the Czech Republic, the eastern fringe of Austria, the most western part of Croatia and the surroundings of Trieste in Italy. A considerable proportion of the Reuss herbarium originates from gardens, both botanic and private, in Prague, Vienna and elsewhere, and documents in certain cases their long-lost inventories. The complex background of the Reuss herbarium and its acquisition are elucidated, brief biographies of the key figures of the Reuss family with emphasis on their botanical activities are provided, and the names of the main collectors represented in the herbarium are listed.

Preparation of a treatment of the family Apocynaceae for the Flore de Madagascar et des Comores necessitates the description of 11 new species and one new variety in subfamilies Periplocoideae (Baroniella effusa, Pentopetia suarezensis) and Secamonoideae (Calyptranthera punctulata, C. rosea, Pervillaea lanata, Secamone chouxii, S. dictyoneura, S. furcata, S. glabra, S. laevis, S. parviflora and S. toxocarpoides var. incana). Furthermore, an amended description of Pervillaea tomentosa is provided necessitated by an earlier confusion of this taxon with P. brevirostris (here synonymized) and with the new species P. lanata.

Allium oreohellenicum Tzanoud., Tsakiri & Raus (Amaryllidaceae), endemic of the Greek mountains, is described and illustrated as a species new to science. Information regarding its cytology, geographical distribution and taxonomic relationships is also provided. Material belonging to A. oreohellenicum was formerly known/classified as A. achaium Boiss & Orph., a taxon described in 1882 based on a gathering by Orphanides from Mt Klokos (N Peloponnisos, Greece). A detailed study of the Orphanides gathering concerned revealed that it essentially belongs to A. frigidum Boiss. & Heldr., a taxon described 28 years earlier, and so the need for a new name.

The group of the anthericolous Microbotryum species on Silene consists of narrowly host-specialized fungi. Despite intensive taxonomic and phylogenetic studies in this group over the past two decades, the actual species richness has not yet been fully uncovered. Thirteen of these species cause typical anther infection, with soral development restricted to the anthers. Three other species cause atypical infection, with soral development resulting in swollen and deformed flowers (completely filled with spores) and affecting both the anthers and the filaments. A comparative morphological study and molecular phylogenetic analyses, using ITS and LSU rDNA sequences, revealed a new species, Microbotryum arcticum, causing anther infection of Silene uralensis subsp. arctica. Microbotryum arcticum is described and illustrated on the basis of material from Greenland and the eastern Canadian Arctic. An emended description of M. savilei, which causes atypical infection of the same host plant in the eastern Canadian Arctic, is also given. Morphological characters of healthy flowers of S. uralensis subsp. arctica are compared with those of flowers with anther infection and with those of flowers with atypical infection.

An up-to-date biography of Mihael Dimonie (1870–1935), an important Aromanian plant collector in the southern Balkan Peninsula, is presented. So far, he has been better known to linguists than to botanists on account of the Codex Dimonie and his contributions to Aromanian cultural heritage. His private herbarium collections were destroyed in two separate fires in 1917 and 1944, and only the numerous vouchers belonging to the Plantae Macedonicae series that had been commercially distributed remain. These specimens are available in several European and American herbaria and are a lasting testament to Dimonie's extensive collecting activities in what are today Albania, Bulgaria, Greece and North Macedonia. His collecting localities in the southern Balkans are indicated in a map. Seven names based on material collected by Dimonie and one based on material collected by Ignaz Dörfler are lectotypified and nomenclatural notes for six other taxa are presented. A preliminary list of taxa described (or partly described) from Dimonie's material includes at least 29 names.
