Worldwide, seven extant Orphilus Erichson, 1846 species have been described, four of which occur in Europe: Orphilus aegeanus Holloway and Herrmann, 2023, Orphilus africanus Háva, 2005, Orphilus beali Zhantiev, 2001, and Orphilus niger (Rossi, 1790). For the current study, 148 individuals collected from Europe (and into Turkey and Israel) were dissected to enable identification down to the species level. For the four European species, male genitalia and female ovipositor structures are illustrated. Additional ways of differentiating among the species are considered. Data on collection sites are collated for the dissected study specimens and others definitively identified from collections. Updated distribution maps for all four species are presented.

Ctenicera Latreille, 1829 in North America has historically been overly broad in concept, differing from European authors who recognized multiple genera. Recent efforts have been taken to align generic concepts in North America and Eurasia. Two genera were recently described for North American species formerly in Ctenicera that require comment: Billbrownia Johnson, 2023 and Tesolasomus Johnson, 2021. These genera are here synonymized with other genera: Billbrownia is synonymized with Neopristilophus Buysson, 1894, new synonym, and Tesolasomus is synonymized with Pristilophus Latreille, 1834, new synonym, using characters of external morphology, male and female genitalia, and larvae when available. These synonymies create a total of 14 new combinations, seven in each genus: Neopristilophus coniungens (LeConte, 1853), new combination, Neopristilophus copei (Horn, 1871), new combination, Neopristilophus lecontei (Candèze, 1881), new combination, Neopristilophus obversus (Horn, 1871), new combination, Neopristilophus praeses (Horn, 1871), new combination, Neopristilophus rupestris (Germar, 1843), new combination, Neopristilophus signaticollis (Melsheimer, 1846), new combination, Pristilophus blanditus (Brown, 1936), new combination, Pristilophus castanicolor (Fall, 1934), new combination, Pristilophus deceptor (Brown, 1936), new combination, Pristilophus funereus (Brown, 1936), new combination, Pristilophus lanei (Becker, 1949), new combination, Pristilophus sexguttatus (Brown, 1936), new combination, and Pristilophus trivittatus (LeConte, 1853), new combination. Additionally, a global list of species included in Neopristilophus is provided which also corrects generic placements of species included in the genus in the 2001 Ctenicerini world species catalog which were moved to other genera. The original combination for the type species of Agnostelater Costa, 1975 is Pristilophus mesochrous Germar, 1843. A key to species of North American Pristilophus and species list are also provided. Historic concepts of both genera are discussed.

The genus Stenichnus Thomson, 1859 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Scydmaeninae) comprises two subgenera with approximately 200 species in the world. Most species are distributed in the Western Palearctic region and 21 species are distributed in Far East Russia, Japan, Taiwan, and China. In this study, three new species, Stenichnus rhinocerosus Song, Byeon, and Park, new species, Stenichnus bukpyeongensis Song, Byeon, and Park, new species, and Stenichnus satus Song, Byeon, and Park, new species were described from the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. A key to Korean Stenichnus species, descriptions, illustrations of habitus, diagnostic characters, a distribution map, and a checklist of Stenichnus of the Eastern Palearctic is provided.

The Penicillophorinae (Phengodidae) are a rather morphologically modified and enigmatic group of railroad-worm beetles. Specimens are rarely collected, and nearly all species are only known from their holotypes. A recent trip by AKH to Guatemala resulted in the collection of a specimen of Adendrocera Wittmer, 1976, the second ever known to be collected for this genus. Further studies of that individual indicated that it was a new species. In this paper, we describe Adendrocera carmelita Roza, Hansen, and Ferreira, new species and redescribe Adendrocera flavula Wittmer, 1976, the type species of the genus. We note that Adendrocera is of feminine gender and correct the inflection of the adjective constituting the type species epithet flavulum (neuter) to flavula (feminine). We also discuss the hypothesis that the convergent morphology within this subfamily might be a result of miniaturization and paedomorphic processes.

The present contribution provides new records of wood-boring Coleoptera developing on grapevines in the Diyarbakir, Mardin, Elaziğ, and Şirnak provinces (SE Turkey) collected during the years 2020–2022. The survey allowed the identification of two Bostrichidae, four Buprestidae, one Cerambycidae, and one Mordellidae; some of the species collected are reported developing on Vitis vinifera L. (Vitaceae) for the first time.

Scraptiidae Gistel, 1848 have experienced little synthetic work worldwide and the North American fauna has had almost no attention over the past 80 years. We here provide an updated synopsis of North American Scraptiidae summarizing the taxonomic history of the group, presenting revised classificatory concepts and highlighting remaining challenges having worldwide taxonomic implications. A key is provided for all scraptiid genera of North America and the West Indies along with a key to species of the redefined genus Diclidia LeConte, 1862 north of Mexico. Species-group taxa from North America as well as all genus-group taxa for the world are cataloged. Higher-level changes are as follows: Pectotoma Hatch, 1965 is transferred to Allopodini Franciscolo, 1964; Evalces Champion, 1889 is proposed as a new synonym of Allopoda LeConte, 1866; Sphingocephalus Liljeblad, 1945 is transferred to Anaspidini Mulsant, 1856; Rhabdocnemis Franciscolo 1956 (= Rhabdanaspis Franciscolo, 1972) is proposed as a new synonym of Diclidia. We designate the following type species: Evalces dentipes Champion, 1889 for Evalces; Psilonycha campestris Fåhraeus, 1870 for Psilonycha Fåhraeus, 1870 (= Biophida Pascoe, 1860); Scraptia pallipes Melsheimer, 1846 for Canifa LeConte, 1866; Scraptia antennata Pic, 1902 for Scraptia (Trotommideomorpha) Pic, 1902. The following new combinations are proposed (previous generic placement given in brackets): Allopoda dentipes (Champion, 1889) [Evalces]; Allopoda grisea (Champion, 1889) [Evalces]; Allopoda longula (Champion, 1889) [Evalces]; Allopoda sinuatipes (Champion, 1889) [Evalces]; Diclidia bicincta (Champion, 1890) [Pentaria Mulsant, 1856]; Diclidia fuscula (LeConte, 1862) [Pentaria]. Allopoda championi Johnston, Naczi, and Gimmel, new replacement name is proposed for Evalces luteus Champion, 1889. Scraptia pallipes var. minuta Melsheimer, 1846 and Scraptia pallipes var. plagiata Melsheimer, 1846 are made new junior objective synonyms with Canifa pallipes (Melsheimer, 1846) via lectotype and neotype designations. At the species level, the following new synonyms are proposed (senior synonym given in brackets): Diclidia propinqua Liljeblad, 1918, Diclidia gilva Liljeblad, 1922, and Diclidia sexmaculata Liljeblad, 1945 [= Diclidia bicincta (Champion, 1890)]; Anthobates bicolor Liljeblad, 1918, Anthobates pallidus Liljeblad, 1918, and Diclidia inyoensis Liljeblad, 1922 [= Diclidia fuscula (LeConte, 1862)]; Diclidia greeni Liljeblad, 1918 [= Diclidia laetula (LeConte, 1858)]; Anaspis nubila LeConte, 1859 and Pentaria decolor Champion, 1890 [= Pentaria trifasciata (Melsheimer, 1845)].

Eubadura yooi Lee and Ahn, new species is described from the Korean coasts. The validity of the new species is supported by the external form and the internal structure of the male genitalia, as well as partial COI gene sequences. We also discuss the systematic status of Eubadura and report Eubadura hokkaidensis Tasaku and Maruyama for the first time in Kamchatka, Russia. An updated key, description, and illustrations of diagnostic characters are provided to facilitate identification.

There are over 70 species of Pachybrachis Chevrolat known from Arizona. A group of primarily yellow species consists of nine Nearctic species: Pachybrachis aztec Barney, new species, Pachybrachis caelatus J. L. LeConte, Pachybrachis chiricahua Barney, new species, Pachybrachis harshaw Barney, new species, Pachybrachis laevis Bowditch, Pachybrachis mohave Barney, new species, Pachybrachis montezuma Barney, new species, Pachybrachis nubilus Bowditch, and Pachybrachis placidus Fall. A key to the Yellow Species is given, and a description and figure are provided for each species not previously published.

An aleocharine rove beetle fossil, Cypha Leach sp. (Staphylinidae: Aleocharinae: Hypocyphtini), is recorded from mid-Eocene Bitterfeld amber of Germany. This is the first record of the staphylinid subfamily Aleocharinae from this amber deposit, also representing the second pre-Quaternary fossil of Hypocyphtini in the world. Together with another Eocene fossil, Baltioligota electrica Paśnik, 2005 from mid-Eocene Baltic amber, our finding suggests the potentially diverse paleofauna of hypocyphtines during the Eocene in Europe.

Pseudips Cognato, 2000 species are distributed in the western mountains of China and in western North America where they feed and complete their life cycle under the bark of spruce and pine trees (Pinaceae: Picea and Pinus spp.). The phylogenetic relationships of the three previously recognized species are as follows: Pseudips orientalis (Wood and Yin, 1986) is sister to a monophyletic group consisting of Pseudips concinnus (Mannerheim, 1852) and Pseudips mexicanus (Hopkins, 1905). Morphological variation has been observed among some populations which has challenged species boundaries. We conducted a review of morphological characters and reconstructed a DNA-based phylogeny of individuals from multiple, widely disjunct locations to test the limits of the three species. A mostly resolved DNA-based phylogeny demonstrated reciprocal monophyly for Canadian/US and Mexican populations, no overlap of inter- and intraspecific pairwise COI DNA sequence differences, and corroborated diagnostic morphological characters. In addition, >10% COI DNA sequence difference as well as diagnostic morphological characters were observed between P. orientalis individuals from Tibet and Qinghai, China. As a result, Pseudips radiatae (Hopkins, 1915), status restored is resurrected from synonymy with P. mexicanus and Pseudips yak Cognato and Smith, new species is described. Potential prehistoric environmental scenarios contributing to Pseudips speciation are discussed.

Two new species of the genus Ataenius Harold, 1867 are described, illustrated, and discussed. Ataenius kudrnai Minkina, Gama, and Skelley, new species from Paraguay, belonging to the A. aequalis-A. platensis species group, is a typical member of the genus. However, Ataenius vazdemelloi Minkina, Gama, and Skelley, new species from Brazil, a member of the A. complicatus species group, is easily distinguishable from all other members of Ataenius by the shape of its elytral interstriae and erect macrosetation covering the body.

The genus Bothynus Hope, 1837 consists of 24 species distributed in all Brazilian regions, where some of these species inhabit different environments and contribute to the decomposition and nutrient recycling processes in the soil. However, there is no existing information regarding the morphology of antennal sensilla in this genus. The aim of this study was to identify and describe the antennal sensilla of Bothynus medon (Germar, 1824) and Bothynus striatellus (Fairmaire, 1878). Adult specimens of B. medon and B. striatellus were collected using light traps and separated by sex. The antennae were then extracted, divided into proximal, medial, and distal lamellae, and preserved for imaging using scanning electron microscopy. Trichoid, chaetic, placoid types I, II, and III, coeloconic types I and II, basiconic type I, and ampullaceous (pore) sensilla were identified. In B. medon females, 17,477 sensilla were quantified, comprising 17,380 (99.44%) placoid, 76 (0.44%) coeloconic, and 21 (0.12%) basiconic. In male lamellae, 21,663 sensilla were counted, including 21,525 (99.37%) placoid, 117 (0.54%) coeloconic, and 21 (0.09%) basiconic. In B. striatellus females, 17,452 sensilla were recorded, consisting of 17,253 (98.86%) placoid, 174 (1.00%) coeloconic, and 25 (0.14%) basiconic. In male lamellae, 19,480 sensilla were documented, with 19,211 (98.62%) placoid, 251 (1.29%) coeloconic, and 18 (0.09%) basiconic. Trichoid, chaetic, placoid, basiconic, coeloconic, and pore sensilla were identified in B. medon and B. striatellus. Differences in the numbers of antennal sensilla were observed between B. medon and B. striatellus, and between males and females of the same species, indicating antennal dimorphism.

Zygogramma Chevrolat, 1836 are conspicuous, diverse beetles with economically important species distributed throughout the Americas. This taxon is confirmed as a subjective senior synonym of Zygospila Achard, 1923 and is treated as a subgenus of Calligrapha Chevrolat, 1836 rather than at full genus rank. Tritaenia Motschulsky, 1860 is treated at genus rank, separate from either Zygogramma or Calligrapha. Ithygramma Clark, Douglas, and Cavan (type species: Zygogramma cognata Stål, 1859) is proposed as a new subgenus of Tritaenia and is equivalent to subgenus Zygogramma (sensu Achard, 1923). The following new replacement name is proposed: Calligrapha (Z.) neomexicana Clark, Douglas, and Cavan for Zygogramma mexicana Jacoby, 1882 (junior homonym of Calligrapha mexicana Stål, 1859).

Morphological, behavioral, and genetic evidence support treatment of C. (Z.) pallida as a valid species, rather than as a subspecies of C. (Z.) conjuncta.
