Abstract

We estimated the abundance and damage caused by bean thrips (Caliothrips phaseoli) in a commercial variety, a proposed new variety, and five advanced lines of dry beans in Northern Sinaloa, Mexico. Two of the tested cultivars: Higuera, the commercial control, had the highest average of leaves damaged by C. phaseoli, while the new Mochis variety had lower levels of damage, although the insect was highly abundant. The advanced bean lines that were evaluated had fewer pest and less damage compared to the control treatment.
