The series ‘Notes on early land plants today’ was originally established (Söderström et al. 2012) during the work with the World Checklist of Hornworts and Liverworts (Söderström et al. 2016) with 74 notes published 2012–2015. After being dormant since the publication of the World Checklist, we now re-establish it to publish mainly shorter notes on taxonomy and nomenclature of hornworts and liverworts.

In the checklist by Söderström et al. (2010) Taxilejeunea parvibracteata Steph. was reported from Java based on Eifrig (1936). This was based on a data entry error for what should have been Taxilejeunea parvisaccata Steph. Eifrig which needed a new name when transferred to Lejeunea Lib., Lejeunea micholitzii Mizut., since Lejeunea parvisaccata (Steph.) Steph. is a blocking name.
