Abstract

Micronycteris microtis is a small insectivorous bat species with a highly fragmented distribution throughout Latin America. We present a new record of M. microtis in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico, expanding its distribution 55 km south and 45 km west from the closest known locality, which is Tamasopo, San Luis Potosí. We captured, examined, and released 14 individuals; one was a pregnant female in August and one a lactating female in July. This is the first report of the species in a natural protected area in the central region of Mexico and the third record of the species in the center of the country.
