Abstract

The agave weevil, Scyphophorus acupunctatus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is managed with traps that contain synthetic pheromone and food bait. Commercial and artisanal traps were evaluated, and those of different colors were compared. There were no significant differences between the different types of traps, but there were differences between the colors. Thus, merely selecting differently colored traps resulted in the capture of more agave weevils. It was notable that merely selecting traps of different colors enabled the artisanal traps to be as effective as the commercial traps at capturing weevils.
