Abstract

A new species of biting midge, Culicoides (Selfia) moabensis, is described and illustrated from southeastern Utah. Its relationship to Culicoides (Selfia) multipunctatus Malloch and Culicoides (Selfia) brookmaniWirth is discussed, and modifications to existing keys to adult males and females of C. (Selfia) species are provided. Its abundance, seasonal distribution, and aspects of its reproductive and feeding biology and potential as an arbovirus vector are discussed
