Cephalonia Island, Ionian Sea, Greece. Photograph of the mushroom shaped rock above is located about 50 m offshore from the harbour of Poros, Cephalonia island (Ionian Sea, Greece). Two fossil emerged notches are visible: the lower one at 50 cm aboveMSL corresponds to the co-seismic uplift which took place at 1953 because of an earthquake with Ms=7.2, while the upper one at 1.2 m above MSL corresponds to a palaeo-seismic event that took place around 1500 BP (Stiros et al., 1994). Especially the elevated shoreline at+50 cm is continuously visible at the southeastern part of the island for more than 18 km.
