Abstract

Plant resistance to aphids has been investigated with the insect feeding monitor, now known as the electronic monitoring system (EMS). The advantages and history of this technique are summarized and discussed. Computer-based data acquisition increases the efficiency of the technique without sacrificing resolution of detail of feeding behavior information. Data are presented on the effects of various environmental factors on greenbug feeding behavior and the effects of the EMS on greenbug reproduction.
