Cultural management tactics for management of the Russian wheat aphid, Diuraphis noxia (Mordvilko), are reviewed. Modifications in sanitation, grazing, fertilization, irrigation, row spacing, and planting dates practices are shown to have the potential for reducing Russian wheat aphid densities. Although the underlying causes for these effects are not well understood, they can result in significant reductions in Russian wheat aphid infestations. Cultural controls will be an important component in integrated management of this pest.
